Hedonic Treadmill
$150.00
Unit price perMore. It's the one thing we never seem to have enough of.
There's a peculiar thing about being human. We spend our lives chasing the next achievement, the next possession, the next thing we're convinced will finally make us happy. And when we get it? Well, there's always something else.
Psychologists call this the Hedonic Treadmill — our remarkable ability to adapt to improved circumstances, returning to roughly the same level of happiness regardless of how much more we acquire or accomplish. The finish line keeps moving, and we keep running.
This coin is my interpretation of said condition. A skeleton endlessly powers an elaborate mechanical treadmill, reaching desperately for an hourglass that remains just beyond his grasp. The machine never stops, the pursuit never ends, and all the while, time keeps slipping away.
A reminder that there's a difference between wanting more out of life and spending your entire life wanting more.
